Historic Sites

Helmcken House
Helmcken House, BC's oldest house, stands on its original site beside the Royal BC Museum in downtown Victoria. It still provides shelter to its original occupants, although all have been dead for over sixty years! "Haunted House Tours" highlight the ghostly events in the historic site.
During October tours take place on Friday and Saturdays
at 7:00 pm and 8:30 pm, with extra tours the week before Halloween.

Reservations recommended. Call (250) 361-0021.
Schools and other groups welcome any time by advance booking.

Point Ellice House
Point Ellice House, a Victorian house museum set amidst restored gardens, is located beside Victoria's picturesque (and haunted) Selkirk Water. The house was home to the O'Reilly family for 125 years and can claim to be haunted by the most ghosts of any place in town. Point Ellice House Ghost Tours feature stories of the boy in the barn, footsteps in the attic, the boy who was afraid of being locked in his room, the phantom piano player, the lady in the blue dress and recent dining room ghost sightings and other paranormal manifestations. Don't forget your flashlight!
Tours are scheduled daily from October 21 through October 31
at 3:00 pm, 6:30 pm and 8:00 pm.

Adults $8.00, Students and Seniors $7.00, Children $6.00, Families $25.00
Call (250) 380-6506 for information. Reservations recommended..
School tours of the haunted house are also available.

Hatley Castle

Hatley Castle was the baronial country estate of James and Laura Dunsmuir and is now home to Royal Roads University. The period gardens are open daily at no charge. Look for the ghost of Jim Dunsmuir Jr. in his World War I uniform rising from the lake by the bridge in the Japanese Gardens. Visit the museum
in the basement of the castle and ask about the ghosts of James and Laura who haunt their former living quarters and about Annabelle, the servant whose ghost appears near the window where she lept to her death after an unfortunate love affair. Hatley Castle stories are featured in the Creepy Canada TV series.
On October 27, 2003 Hatley Castle hosts a day of ghostly activities, starting with a lecture at 1:30 pm, followed by a ghost tour of the castle. Call (250) 656-0853 for more information.
